First, you need to make sure that your work area is not carpeted. Similarly, remove all rugs, towels, or clothes that are lying around. If your hair is long, then you have to tie your hair at the crown. Then, dip a cotton swab into a safe cleansing liquid and paint a ring around the outer portion of the ears and the hairline around the head. Keep saturating the head, moving towards the crown where the hair is tied. Apply the lice cleanser in a manner that saturates the hair completely, and comb through the hair to ensure total coverage. You may even tie or wrap the hair up again at the crown.

Massage the scalp at an interval of every ten minutes for about thirty to forty minutes. Reapply the cleanser, work until the lather is formed, and follow the same process for another twenty minutes. Rinse the cleanser off, dry your hair, and comb with a nit comb. Once the home based treatment for head lice has been completed, launder all jackets, clothing, bed linen, pillow covers, hair combs, brushes, doodads, rugs, ribbons, and mats.

If you consult your doctor, you may even be recommended with a medicated shampoo, cream rinse, or lotion to kill the lice. These may be over-the-counter or prescription medications, depending on what treatments have already been tired. Although medicated lice treatments usually kill the lice and nits, it may still take a few days for the itching to stop.

As you can see, there are several ways on how to kill head lice. You simply have to find the one that works best for you.
